Illuminvok keeps one primary acoustic kit voiced for practice and light recording prep. Shells stay in tune, heads are rotated before they go dead, and hardware is checked so pedals and stands do not steal focus from your playing. Adult players notice when a room fights them; we try not to let that happen on East 6th.
Acoustic kit
The house setup is a five-piece configuration with a responsive snare, rack and floor toms, and a kick suited to rock, soul, and indie covers as well as quieter dynamic work. Throne height and pedal tension can be adjusted at the start of your Illuminvok session. Bring your own snare if you prefer a familiar sound; we can swap within a few minutes when schedules allow.
Cymbals and hats
Hats, crash, and ride stay mounted for immediate play. We favor cymbals that wash cleanly without drowning the kit in a small treated room. If you need a second crash for a specific chart, ask when you book — Illuminvok can usually accommodate with advance notice.
Pads and warm-up
Practice pads live near the door so you can loosen wrists before you sit behind the kit. Many Illuminvok regulars take five minutes on the pad for singles and doubles, then move to the snare for ghost-note work. It keeps volume sensible for neighbors and saves your ears for the part of the session that matters.
Hand percussion
Beyond the kit, Illuminvok stocks a cajón, frame drums, and rope-tuned drums. These instruments support players who switch between band kit work and acoustic duo or songwriter sessions. Surfaces are wiped between players; skins are monitored for wear the same way we watch drum heads.
